Qasidah Burdah and ilmu Tasawuf @ Masjid Aleem Siddique

Last Friday, I was at Masjid Aleem Siddique. The architecture of the mosque is beautiful, just abit small. I met my normal group of maulid gang, Mami Bibah, Hidayah , Su and Ummi Ustaz Hassan. But I chose to sit beside Ihsan. Because I dont know when else I can meet her after this. My friend Ihsan, dosnt speak much, but when she speaks to me, it makes me smile. Silence is knowledge she says.

The Majlis started of with a group of men, singing Qashidah Burdah. Habib Umar and Habib Attas were sitting amongs the jemaah. Qashidah Burdah is just so amazing and melodius. I must learn how to sing this Qashidah. Ustaz Hasan says if there was hadrah accompanying the group, it wld have been much nicer. I prefer it accoustic , just as it was.

Mawla ya salli wa sallim daa'iman, abadann'Ala habeebika khayri khalqi kullihimi.O Mawla (Protector, speaking to Allah), send prayers and peace always and forever Upon Your beloved, the best out of all of Creation.
Some background on Qashidah Burdah.

''THE WRITER HAZRAT IMAAM SAALIH SHARA-FUD-DEEN ABU ABDULLAH MUHAMMAD BIN HASAN AL-BUSAIRI R.A. had become paralysed. His doctors and physicians gave up all hope of his recovery. Eventually in this state of complete helplessness and despair he composed this poem expressing the grandeur and excellence of Sayyidina Rasulullah (saw) Using this as his sole means of asking Allah Ta'aala to cure him from his illness. He isolated himself in a quiet place one Thursday night and with complete devotion, concentration and sincerity began reciting this poem. While reciting it sleep overcame him. He had a vision of Sayyidina Rasulullah (saw). He told Sayyidina Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam of his illness whereupon Sayyidina Rasulullah (saw) passed his blessed hand over Imaam Busairi's body. Through the barakat and blessing of Sayyidina Rasulullah (saw), Allah Ta'aala granted him complete cure from his paralysis. When he awoke he found a scarf or shawl on his body which he had seen Sayyidina Rasulullah (saw) place on his paralyzed limbs. This resulted in the poem being named "Qasidah Burdah" (The Poem of the Scarf).''

The tune was farmiliar, i think I heard Ustaz Hasan maulid group sang it before. But to hear it again live at Masjid Aleem Siddique amongst the decendants of the prophet, * smiles* this is what makes me happy. I wish Little Habib could be with me , understanding the atmosphere and enjoying the piousness of the event. I wish my parents and siblings could be at the masjid appreciating such events. Alas, it was just me and hubby and a whole group of of other people. Only Allah knows how thankfull I was that I was able to make it to Masjid Aleem Siddique.
Check out the video of the qashidah burdah @ Aleem Siddique in YOU TUBE. I just view it again yesterday with hubby and Little Habib and we were singing along to the lyrics.

Al - Habib Umar spoke about Tasawwuf. Its was a long ceramah with lots of stories in between. I cant really write everything cos I was listening and enjoying the stories. Here's a jizz of it :
Habib Umar explained what is Tasawwuf. It is not only a name.
Its shown by character, akhlak , budi perkerti. Ahli Tasawuf is usually those that have a high level of ilmu and use the ilmu for goodness. They are very careful in their quest to practice Islam. It is the height of Ihsan in Islam. They hold a strong faith that Allah (swt) is looking at them.

In ever ERA, there will be ahli Tasawuf even in akhir zaman like now. Ahli Tasawuff keep their ibadah with Allah (swt) secret and they fight their nafs. They are people who fight their nafs, are usually given Hidayah by Allah (swt).

Habib Umar told stories of Imam Abdullah Al-haddad, Sheikh Abu Bakar bin Salim , Imam Syafiee (ra) Imam Nawawi and Imam Ghazali (ra) live their lives to be ahli Tasawuf. Ahli Tasawuf are waris para Nabi.
Imam Ghazali (ra) learned many subjects until he was a speacialist at it. He thought more than 300 ulamak besar in Baghdad. But he was not happy with himself. He tried to inspect himself if he was really sincere or was he just following his Nafs to be famous ? So he left Baghdad and went to Shyams. He lock himself in a minaret and just did ibadah alone by himself to Allah (swt). With this Berkah, now many ahli Tasawuf are learning from Imam Ghazali (ra).

Habib Umar says pada zaman Rasulullah (saw), people did Sunat Tahyatul masjid uptill 300 Rakaats. But this zaman, no one does it anymore. Ahli Tasawuf take their prayers seriously, as they do to their zakat, puasa etc. They fear Allah. When they are tested, they are calm. If they have aib, they ask people to doa for them that they change and be shown the right path. This Ilmu is only given to kekasih2 Allah ( swt ).

There is this story about a daughter of this Ulamak' name Harith bin Hashim. She sews at night using the light from the castle of a king. So she went to see Imam Ahmad Bin Hambal and she asked if the clothes she sew was Halal as she had used the lights from the castle as Kings usually have money which is not Halal. The money could be use for the lights of the castle. Imam Ahmad Bin Hambal told her that she cannot use the lights from the castle as she is the daughter of an Ulama'. Its is OK for other people but not for her. An Ulamak' will pass on his characters to his children.

The Majlis ended but first a nikah ceremony ! yes, after 10pm, there was a young lad who went throught the nikah ceremony led by Habib Umar. My hubby says that that young lad is actually his student from Darul Mustafa. Habib Umar made Du'a and it all ended with a feast of Bamiyyah.
Im sure many will miss Habib Umar Bin Hafiz and of course will look forward for his arrival here again next year just like I do ..... Insyallah.
