Salaam Ashura !

10 Muharam falls on a Saturday this year.
I will be working, insya’allah, hope to fast.
It’s a sunnah and have heard a lot of stories on the goodness of fasting on 9/10 Muharram.

It’s a day for us to be doing a lot of good things, such as donating, being nice to orphans etc….

For me, I’ll always try to dress up, look nice and be on my best behavior on Hari Asyhura.
Don’t know why, been that way for the past 3 years or so.

My mum says she will be cooking porridge..

maybe not bubur Asyura, just normal bubur. Hope I get a chance to break my fast with her bubur. Life is unpreditable. I really don’t wish for mum to go too soon. Non of us want that. My heart has been crying each time I see her sick but I cant do anything besides trying to always ask her how she feels and be a listening ear to her when she tells me how she feels.
Yesterday I inch close to her and hugged her. I just needed to.

Dr Bal asked her if she is prepared to face death should it comes. She said she is prepared to die cos everyone will die. But she just loves her children…..

I understand how she feel. All of us siblings are really close to her cos she has been an understanding mother all this while.

Oh Allah.. please prolong my mother’s life with good health, iman and much happiness.

Sheesh, I better change my topic.. Ke situ pulak.. My eyes are tearing again.

Ashura, which literally means “tenth” in Arabic, refers to the tenth day of Muharram.

Prophet Muhammed arrived in Madinah and found the Jews observing fast on the day of ‘Ashura… They said: “It is the day of great (significance) when Allah delivered Moses and his people and drowned Pharaoh and his people, and Moses observed fast out of gratitude. And we also observe it.” Then Prophet Muhammed responded: “We have more right, and we have closer connection with Moses than you have”; so he observed fast and gave us orders to observe it.”
[Reported by Ibn Abbas, Ref: Sahih Bukhari and Muslim]

Mu’awiyah ibn Abu Sufyan (Radiyallahu 'anh) relates: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) say: "It is the day of ‘Ashura. Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) has not made fasting obligatory for you. But I am fasting. He who likes to observe fast among you should do so, and he who likes not to observe it (does not have to) observe it."
[Sahih Muslim]

Abu Qatada (Radiyallahu 'anh) relates that the Holy Nabi (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim) said that the fast on the 10th of Muharram atones for the sins of the preceding year.
[Sahih Muslim]

Abu Huraira (Radiyallahu 'anh) reports that the Holy Nabi (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim) said that after Ramadan, the fasts of Muharram have the greatest excellence.
[Sahih Muslim]

Ashura is a day of great historical significance too.

Here are some of the events that Ive heard so far..

* Allah (swt) accepted the repentance of Sayyidina Adam ('Alaihis-Salaam) after his exile from Paradise.
* Allah (swt) saved Sayyidina Nuh ('Alaihis-Salaam) and his companions in the ark
* Allah (swt) extinguished the fire in which Sayyidina Ibrahim ('Alaihis-Salaam) was thrown by Raja Nimrod;
* Allah (swt) spoke directly to Sayyidina Musa ('Alaihis-Salaam) and gave him the Commandments.
* On this same 10th of Muharram, Sayyidina Ayyub ('Alaihis-Salaam) was restored to health (from leprosy);
*Sayyidina Yusuf ('Alaihis-Salaam) was reunited with his father Ya’qub ('Alaihis-Salaam)
* Sayyidina Yunus ('Alaihis-Salaam) was taken out from the belly of the fish
* and the sea was divided as the nation of israel was delivered from captivity and Pharoah’s army was destroyed.
* Ashura is also the day when the kingdom of Sulaiman ('Alaihis-Salaam) was restored
* Sayyidina Isa ('Alaihis-Salaam) was raised to Jannah
* and Sayyidina al- Imam Husayn (Radiyallahu 'anh) ,the grandson of our prophet Muhammad (saw) achieved the honor of Martyrdom.
